Like the joining of ancient clans or the marriage of Marie Antoinette to Louis of France the joining of the Duff brothers is something of a historical milestone. Since birth the Duff’s have gone their separate ways, one getting down on the worlds hipper dancefloors, hips-a-wiggling, head thrown back in rapture and all under a spinning disco ball. The other brother the troubled teen, hood up, eyes down, bass rumbling, one time selecta.

Imagine then two estranged brothers, born from the same seed living awkwardly side by side, never entirely comfortable in each other's company finally uniting on one massive inbred slab of sonic harmony. If you can imagine that slightly cack-handed analogy then that is pretty much what you get here.

After a year of huge edits and original material Duff Disco has finally gone and had a fiddle with his brother? Both taken from the forthcoming Duffstep album “Getting To Sirius”, ‘Your Touch’ and ‘Backseat’ are original Duffstep tracks given a cosmic make over by Duff Disco. They are proper modern disco music that sits just the right side of funky, without conjuring images of fluffy boots and spiky hair, white shirts and fake tan. Whilst Backseat is the more euphoric of the two Your Touch is more moody than an emo teenager watching Twighlight.

Both obviously Duff Disco but somehow keeping the family together as Duffstep’s finger prints are all over these too.

Manchester’s finest Paul Farrier aka Shadow Dancer is back after his succesful release of his 2 acid-house tracks on Boysnoize sub-label BNR TRAX. He returns with 4 diverse songs for all of us cool DJs.

“Catmoves” is a great mix of modern Disco and House, it’s repetative arpeggio bassline builds through the track and creates an atmosphere you surely fill up the floor with.

“Parallax”, our hit of this ep, is an epic disco-tech song, which gives you warm feelings and takes you on a journey to a sunny afterhour morning at Berlin’s Bar25 or maybe just memories of how good those old electro-disco Legowelt tracks were.

On “Murder Room” Paul delivers a groovy dancefloor murder track, an adventure room full of little sounds to brainwash ravers.

Last but not least “Lo Fighters” is an unreleased Shadow Dancer song from 1999, classic pre-millenium electro with a robot vocoder voice that motivates, the perfect song to close this ep in new classic electro feel. Electro 2011 let’s go!

As a digital bonus track you get Deadstock 33′s version of “Catmoves”.

It should come as no surprise that one of Finland's most promising musical exports in recent memory would be graced by the touch of the hand of local super-producer Jori Hulkkonen.

Jori not only mixed and engineered the original material for the band's acclaimed debut LP, but also put in double remix duty here with both a solo effort, and - enlisting the aid of techno legend Jesper Dahlbäck - as the mighty Kebacid, who you may remember for jacking the potato on Turbo 081. 

The result is a pair of emo ballads that light the way from your darkened bedroom to the dancefloor, till the tears and sweat become one.

The rare use of wheeling gul sounds in a house track coupled with the wintery charm of Suddenly Somethin' got my tail up straight away when I first heard it in Jozif’s RA mix. A glacial London and the insistent plod seemed fitting for this release and the rest of the package works its way through you like the spreading thaw of spring.

The title track takes the epic drama of his Wolf + Lamb release, elongating the groove to turn in a 6am bliss out. Assertive yet sensitive, the track cheekily steps on and off of the floor, sending trippy pulses across lush washes of melody while a fuzzy, cradle like bassline rocks back and forth. The drums are raw and organic, tough without being pounding while strings and woodblocks add to the cinematic feel. The track is widescreen like most things associated with Agoria, but its agility and dexterity is not hindered and Sunrise shifts its bulk with grace and pose.

The aforementioned Suddenly Somethin’ has a nostalgic edge, whether those without a coastal upbringing would agree is another point. My point is that the Seagull-like sounds show a daring imagination that counters the outright honesty in the melody, allowing for an emotional disco outpour without losing face.

Widescreen, emotional boxes have been ticked to pass the InFiné test, Natural Nature and Cathy’s Diamonds tick the more leftfield boxes that the label’s tastes spread to. Rolling house in the style Craig Richards would use to diffuse his floor while still spinning heads, the track has a dark energy that pushes the parameters of the package. Cathy’s Diamonds takes an orchestral approach with soaring strings and untreated drums. Vocal samples and uneasy melodies add to the intrigue and illustrate the level of detail and emotional variation across the EP, sending it off in accomplished style.

Since Beatport honored Nero with “Best Dubstep Act” in the 2010 Beatport Music Awards, things have been relatively quiet for Nero. Lucky that quiet time is over as Nero returns to the front of the pack with this solid dubstep number featuring the vocals of Alana. We’re sure you’ll be hearing this in mix sets until the middle of the year.

How do you define an artist who has never performed live, nor DJ’ed, nor ever had his photograph published and has never partaken in an interview? By the music of course. Jürgen Paape has proven this time and time again. How? Listen. Hear. Right now his “Kompilation”. The man, co-owner of Kompakt and the house’s most elusive member remains the un-compromised, untainted shining star. And without ever being there…. the one who launched the label with his first release "Triumph“, has left a legacy of music that is a true core of the sound which Kompakt’s foundation is built on along the years.

A well deserved opportunity to hear Jürgen Paape for fans and newcomers – revived and remastered in a way that it plays through like a full length album. Some of the biggest moments of Kompakt over a decade history are here. The chorus of “So Weit Wie Noch Nie” remains timeless – there to send shivers of pleasure down your spine as we feel at the end of exhaustive end of a night at Total Confusion. “Take That” is an anthem for the unbuilt rock stadiums of tomorrow. The bona-fide hit that put him in the charts in Australia and Italy is here – “Come Into My Life (Radio Edit)” remains undeniably one of Kompakt’s catchiest pop tracks ever. We also debut his brand new single “So Wird Die Zeit Gemacht” – which builds on his signature sound with the spirit and vitality of classic house and a truly demented vocal hook.

The whole album is just fantastic, with various ambiances. Certainly one of the best album of the year, an ode to the electronic music. It has been a long time I never heard such a good music. "Kompilation" has been released on 17 December as CD version and shall be released on January 10th, 2011 digitally.

M A N I K returns to Ovum after his incredibly successful Park To The Slope EP. He comes to us this whit his follow up Keep That Fresh EP. The title of the EP says it all as M A N I K is constantly evolving his sound and keeping the music fresh. The title track Keep That Fresh has a funky 303 bass line with intricate grooves and a hook made up of some chords. This is something that will clearly get the floor rolling. Next up is Ditmars Blvd with its heavy drums and catchy synth line, is a stone cold groove track.

On the B side we start with Hold On. This track is inspired by the sounds of early West Coast G Funk Hip Hop with its Lead synth and funked up analog bass line. She’s Slow Motion, with its R&B vocal floating over the incredible deep instrumental. This is something you could hear in the early mornings at a Brooklyn warehouse party. The final cut on this diverse EP is DMX, which is a funky, driving deep jam. All in all a great diverse follow up from M A N I K that should be in the sets of a wide range of DJs.

Growing up in Chicago, when House Music was at its peak and having a father being a blues artist (Rick Howard also sometimes lends his voice to productions of Tevo) and a brother, who is a DJ it was no surprise that Tevo Howard got into music at an early age. So he started spinning record throughout various clubs in Chicago when he was only sixteen, but it was not before 2005 that he started his own productions and two years later his own imprint Beautiful Granville Records.

The releases on BGR showed his significant work consisting of raw analog beats paired with a great sense for melodies, dirty synth basslines, strings and piano stabs to keep the spirit of early 80's Chi-Town records alive. Soon Tevo's music caught the attention of house music lovers on both sides of the Atlantic and brought him releases with European house labels such as Rush Hour and Rebirth, which helped to spread his name to a wider audience.

The "WHAT IS NOISE?" EP is his first release with Permanent Vacation. What initially started as a remix request lead to the beauty of four originals, which show the whole variety of Tevo Howard's sight on todays House Music. Sometimes in life things come together, that are meant to be.

After 3 acclaimed EPs, numerous remix proposals turned down, a few months spent on a butch basement working on their album, Pilooski and Pentile delivers a perfect summer anthem called Singular, featuring the infamous Matias Aguayo on vocals.

'It's a Fine Line' (aka Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris) provides one of their fantastic Train Fantome remixes while Institube wonderkid Das Glow turns the track into an underage drive by shooting at Eurodisney. Pilooski provides the cherry on top with an exoticore-tropical edit of Falkenberg (another gem from the forthcoming album) that will please you, steel drums massives.

You have guessed, this new Discodeine EP is a perfect vamos a la playa release. Please note that the Das Glow remix will be an Itunes exclusive. The self-titled Discodeine album will be released later this year, stay tuned.

The acoustic version on Body Talk PT2 was orchestrated by a surging string section and displays Robyn’s lyrics about the power of love. Once again we witness her innate ability to project utter strength in her lyrics while also wearing her heart proudly on her sleeve. This pulsating full power version takes every ounce of that emotion and wraps it up in another exceptional disco-pop record worthy of any dance-floor or passion-laden sing-a-long.

Chaim brings a glow to revellers' hearts. The producer and DJ from Tel Aviv is loved like a star for his melodic dancefloor elegies. This charming musician has opened up house music to his own unique sound cosmos; he takes delight in a new and distinct spectrum of emotions. He unlocks the club cosmos, moulds moods and sounds into a universal pop language and seduces us with enchanting grooves. This first single from his debut album Alive, due for release in February, fills the listener with euphoric longing.

The sweet, intimate surrender of 'U & Eye' takes your breath away. This song featuring the touching voice of Meital De Razon knows no boundaries. It captivates the masses at festivals and takes the home listener on a cinematic trip through a pair of headphones. 'U & Eye' is both a declaration of love and an accusation. The song captures the moment when you are completely enraptured with your lover, yet his or her actions remain a mystery. Love proves to be a prison and there is nothing left to do but hope for mercy. But this is not Chaim's last word on the subject: the laconic, almost ironic balance to this burning passion is to be found in the bassline of the track. Its melody carries you away and burrows deeper into your mind with every bar.

In 'Don't Shout' we hear Chaim's adamant call to the party animals in all of us. The deep bass tones of this euphoric, exuberant number infiltrate our every limb.

Crisp garage grooves are interspersed with oriental percussive rhythms; male voices communicate with the electronic tongues of angels. 'Everything' is a track for much later into the night: the chaos of the peak time has abated, the dancers are immersed in the depths of the music. Chaim drives them on with hypnotic chords, envelops them in a delicate sonic fabric. Don't you want it? calls a voice. Yes, Chaim, we certainly do!

A few months ago, these Belgians unleashed their much acclaimed revamp of Beats Of Love, for their countrymen Nacht Und Nebel. Since then, it’s been playlisted on national radio in their native hub and tickled the ears of many club far beyond.

The tune has proven to be so loveable that the Villa boys enlisted some of their mates for a fresh round of remixes.

Scottish pop luminary Mylo (him of the smash Drop The Pressure..duh!) resurfaces from his self chosen confinement with a killer rework featuring an addictive piano riff spiralling around an electropop beat. A true labour of love – welcome back, Myles!

The Finnish italo-disco mavericks of Hannulelauri go for the sensual robotic vibe on their version, all otherworldly bleeps and swooshing synths.

The Most Rated series was resurrected late 2009 after a shortage of compilations that brought together the biggest credible house records of the year. Every track included here on Most Rated 2010 is worthy of inclusion, a bonafide hit or anthem within their respective genre of house music whether it be a soulful, deep, tech or main room smash.

Copyright’s ‘Nobody’ – a record that has been destroying dancefloors from Pacha, Ibiza, to the Roundhouse, London and Zouk, Singapore – kicks things off and this was certainly one of the most understated hits of the summer, and only now about get its full release. There’s a big slice of New York with Frankie Knuckles awesome re-working of Quentin Harris & Ultra Nate’s ‘Give It 2 U’, whilst Dennis Ferrer’s anthemic ‘Hey Hey’ could not be overlooked and his brand new anthem in waiting, ‘Red Room’, is also included, exclusive to this compilation. The Round Table Knights mix of THAT record ‘Coma Cat’ by Tensnake is featured, adding yet another of this summer’s smashes to the tracklist. Riva Starr’s piano chugging remix of the underground cut ‘Enjoy Music’ and the brand new DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto outing ‘Paris Luanda’ are here, as is the new Chocolate Puma ‘Tonco Tone’ – only out for a few weeks and already confirmed as one of the biggest record of the year.
