When Jono, Tony and Paavo set up their Anjunabeats label back in 2000, it was mainly an outlet for their own burgeoning productions as (among other aliases) Above & Beyond. There was no masterplan, just a dedication to quality and forward-thinking dance music.

Today, Above & Beyond’s overspilling DJ diary reads like a departure board at Heathrow airport. Their debut artist album ‘Tri-State’ sold countless copies worldwide and became a genre classic. Above & Beyond’s songs are sung back to them by tens of thousands of clubbers at the biggest festival stages on the planet and their flagship gigs include launching Richard Branson’s new SpaceShip for Virgin Galactic, rocking 1million people on Rio’s Barra Beach, and a recent sell-out at Brixton Academy.

Now counting over 200 single releases, an award-winning compilation series and with deeper sub label Anjunadeep in tow, Anjunabeats remains the heartbeat of all Above & Beyond’s activity. Renowned as a taste-making torchbearer for quality uplifting dance music, Anjunabeats has grown into a global label family responsible for nurturing talents like Super8 & Tab, Nitrous Oxide and Mat Zo to both critical acclaim and club supremacy.


For this anniversary release, Above & Beyond look back over the Anjunabeats’ legacy by mixing 10 timeless tracks that remind us just how forward-thinking the label has been over its 10 years. As well as Above & Beyond’s own classic ‘Can’t Sleep’, tracks like Bart Claessen & Dave Schiemann’s ‘Madness’ (I Prefer This Mix), Signalrunners ‘These Shoulders’, Daniel Kandi’s ‘Breathe’ and Smith & Pledger’s ‘Northern Lights’ still sound as visceral, energising and uplifting as they did the first time round.

Of course, Anjunabeats is a label driven by forward motion and it is for that reason that Above & Beyond present a second of disc updated and reinterpreted versions of those 10 classic tracks, with highlights including a melodic house-influenced remix of Mat Zo’s ‘Synapse Dynamics’ by Russian trance prodigy Arty, a dark, throbbing tech transformation of Super8 & Tab’s brooding but euphoric ‘Helsinki Scorchin’ by Bart Claessen, and Super8 & Tab’s respectful, futuristic version of Above & Beyond’s ‘Can’t Sleep’. 



To celebrate this landmark release there will be also be a 10 Years of Anjunabeats party at The Gallery (Ministry Of Sound) on Friday 3rd December featuring an Anjunabeats All Stars line up of Kyau & Albert, Mat Zo, Bart Claessen, Oliver Smith and Nitrous Oxide in the Box, and Anjunadeep favourites 16 Bit Lolitas, Jody Wisternoff and James Grant in the 103.

Leaders Of The New School smashes into 2011 with a bang! Having reached the 50 milestone last year, Toolroom’s hugely popular sister imprint welcomes 123XYZ with his ‘Groove Amigos EP’.

Producing und­­er various pseudonyms, the diverse 123XYZ has enjoyed huge success on Anjunabeats, Ultra Records, Armada and Ministry of Sound amongst others, proving he can turn his hands to almost anything with the results speaking for themselves.

Lead track ‘Groove Amigos’ is a light and lively affair that blends vibrant percussion with cheeky musical loops that are engulfed by a hypnotic vocal – Guaranteed to send the dancefloor into a spin! ‘Maya’s Flute’ fuses tight beats with a delectable groove that flow beneath a delicious flute… perfect for taking you back to those sunset moments on the White Isles.

An outstanding debut on Leaders Of The New School from 123XYZ ear-marking him as a definite ‘one to watch’ for 2011.

Georgian producer Levan Nadareishvili collects all the lights he can find and puts them together in three new productions. Giving the Magic Island that breath-taking sunrise it's known for, he kicks off 2011 with a new Balearic-minded trio.

Going for the ocean-deep sounds of tender progressive and delicate trance, 'Inspiration' flows on an everlasting sound-wave of warmth. 'Green Cape Sunset' starts off more funky and continues to ride a playful, feel-good sound. Though these two will surely move the trance-loving soul, the one that is most outshining is 'Breathing'. Presented in a club-friendly and chill-out version, this collab with talented singer Szen will immediately take your senses. Heart-throbbing piano, hitting all the right notes, tender vocals by Szen and a strong whole of production-skills backing it all up.

2011 will be the year in which the Czech Republic capital Prague comes into sharp focus under the eyes of every Markus Schulz and Coldharbour follower - and for more reasons than one.

His affections and admiration for the city of Prague will be represented in the 2011 edition of his compilation series. And in anticipation of its release, Coldharbour Recordings presents you a very special anthem; produced specifically for Prague's leading contribution to clubbing.

The annual Transmission extravaganza now stands as one of the premier dance events in the world, and the 2010 concept presented Markus with the challenge of producing a theme for the recent November night - his second such task in the space of only three years. His effort of The New World in 2008 projected him towards the trance elite, and in 2010, as one of the outstanding and consistent performers across the circuit, he took to the stage at Transmission to headline 'Future Cities'.

Already a firm fans' favorite on Global DJ Broadcast, thanks to World Tour plays in the cities of Budapest, Toronto and Bucharest, the 20,000 capacity audience at the O2 Arena channelled their emotions in unison, as Markus opened his performance on the night fittingly with the anthem. Rising to number 60 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll 2010 and being hailed by Mixmag as “on the cusp of a global takeover”, Super8 & Tab then rework the original’s elements into a deep, driving and epic Club Mix that maintains the edgy atmosphere of the original, but adds an extra acid-tweaked energy and a classic trance touch. 



Adding further clout to an already heavyweight package are legendary Dutch trance outfit Rank 1 who step up with a powerful remix full of drive and hand-raising synths.

Swiss (with Italian roots) trance legend Dave202 debuts on High Contrast Nu Breed with 'Coming Home'. Paul Webster on remix duties stepping things up a gear turning the original into a high energy raver.

He's had his warm-up round of releases, but is now ready to give it his all. Italian producer Fabio Carrara is set for his first Fabio XB solo-release, 'Reflected'. After working together with Yves De Lacroix, Micky Vi, Ronnie Play and Andrea Mazza, 'Reflected' knocks you down with nothing but pure Fabio XB power.

A bolt, deep bass, sweeping melody, outburst of synths in the break and a playful characteristic flow to it all. That's what 'Reflected' is all about. Fabio makes trance mingle with house, progressive and adds a little techno-pinch to it all. What more could a dance-loving soul ask for?

Well, some remixes! The package doesn't only include Fabio XB's own Club remix and more proggy 'XB & DeLaCroix Progressive Rework', it also shakes you down with remixes by Australian mastermind tyDi, Cressida and Albert A-Yellow. Where tyDi expanded the sweeping flow of 'Reflected', taking you on a warm ride into it all, Cressida added a more frisky sound to the track. Albert A-Yellow presents a pounding electro-based remix, to make sure there's plenty of variety!

Another debut for the new Bass Culture release. For BCR013, we welcome Sweden's Joel Alter.

As a trained Violinist and composer for the Swedish National Theatre, Joel's first steps into the world of electronic composition came with an exotic mixture of classical influence and modern inspiration, from acts such as Depeche Mode, Jean-Michel Jarre and Front 242. A key figure on the Swedish music scene since 1995, Joel has always seen his music as stemming from the meeting of a variety of artforms. His first steps onto the international circuit came with the signing of material to Int. DeeJay Gigolo and Minus. Since then, he has developed a strong relationship with Hamburg label, Room With A View, featuring on seven releases since early 2009, as well as releasing on Berlin based label Sweatshop. It was January's 'Preaching To The Choir' on Room With A View, a track that became a firm favourite with D'Julz, and included on his Rex Club compilation, that lead to a request for an EP for Bass Culture. The 'Silence Is Golden' EP is a broad, four track selection, showcasing the sounds and style of the Swede.

The deep, popping-bass and crescendo hitting keys of the title track, are supported by the excellent 'I Feel You'. A track that, uses the most recognizable of vocal samples, in a highly respectful and fresh way. 'Love, Hope and Change' is a haunting slice of melancholy, that shines through its elegant, cascading piano. One grand debut deserves another, and Bass Culture welcomes Daniel Stefanik with his take on 'Silence Is Golden'. The man from Leipzig reworks the original into a late-night tribal-tech number, using its silky keys to perfection and retaining its air of elegance.

And here we start the new year with a new fresh release called Voices EP writted & produced by James Silk from UK, a very promising talent who joined us with three great deep house tracks Voices, Something She Said and Too Hot.

There are another two great guys, our good friends who wanted to join this lovely release, showing their skills, both have done some very groovy and special remixes.

The one of them is Vick Echo a very cool hungarian producer with his remix for the original track Voices and the other great remxer is from Italy, Andrea Natale with a very very different skill on his Gnu Mix, but we let you find this out!

Argentinean born artist Alejandro L. Ross aka Rudolf is back with his fourth Ep on Mean. Recorded between London and Ibiza in Mean 010 you will find elegant minimal grooves combined with jazz and sensual house.

Joda en Cala Comte is a playful experimentation of elastic and loopy sounds, powerful yet distorted. Toys and Us and Wet Shoes are dance floor delights, never losing sight of their dark and perlonesque elements. Remix duty comes from M_nus man Fabrizio Maurizi, giving Wet Shoes a peak time dancefloor edge.

Another release from the Lower East boys is here and true to form it’s full of underground flavour. This time the 'Bit On The Side' EP from label co-owner Lee Brinx who's previous releases have gained support from 2000 And One, Desyn Masiello, Laurent Garnier and Tim Green. The EP includes two great remixes from Cozzy D and Sam Ball.

Lower East return with another great release and continue to supply us with great underground music.

This time a label debut for new boy Gav Memnos, another artist rising from the depths of the London music scene. He brings us ‘Be Your Oooo…!’ together with ‘Untitled’ – a couple of great Tech House stompers complete with two quality remixes from Gavin Herlihy and Kanio.

First up is ‘Be Your Oooo…!’ - with its groovy drums and solid bassline, combined with the amazing topline and vocal riffs this is sure to be a club weapon for all around the globe. Gavin Herlihy supplies us with a spectacular remix for ‘Be Your Oooo…!’ With a string of releases on some of the worlds biggest labels that include, Cocoon, Get Physical and Cadenza he takes the original and transforms it into a deep, dark and techy number with a groovy bassline that chugs along perfectly. Not to mentioned the processed vocals that give this remix a great feel.

On the flip side, Gav Memnos returns with ‘Untitled’ a groovy percussion based track with choppy vocals, this is sure to keep those Saturday night through to Sunday afternoon dancefloor’s packed! Kanio is on remix duty for this one, and never disappoints, especially after the success of the last couple of releases. He takes the original and gives it a complete rework by adding deep warm synth stabs and a carnival vibe flute riff. Another great production from Kanio.

Hope you all enjoy another solid release from the Lower East boys, a label that continues to grow and gain support from the likes of M.A.N.D.Y, System Of Survival, Laurent Garnier and Fabrizio Maurizi.

Continuing with their string of great releases, Lower East return with their next instalment, Girls Girls EP. This time Lee Brinx joins forces with Kanio with this cut already gaining support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, DJ T, System Of Survival, Fabrizio Maurizi, Laurent Garnier and Tim Green to name but a few.

The EP, aptly named Girls Girls includes two great tracks, I Want You and Kisschase. I Want You, is a deep groovy number with vocal samples cleverly pitch around to give us a mesmerising track that will keep the dance floor’s packed till closing.

Kisschase rounds off the EP perfectly, another great deep house track but with rolling hats, warm synth stabs and a mid track breakdown to give a hands in the air moment before kicking straight back into the solid groove.

This EP again shows off the ever-growing talent of Kanio and Lee Brinx and with constant quality tracks like this it gives us great promise for the future of the label and keeps us on the edge in anticipation for the next amazing release.
