VA - Shaping Elements - Poker Flat Volume 8 (PFRCD26BP)

Poker Flat pull in the reigns once again with the 8th installment of their legendary compliation series. To celebrate, a double pack vinyl release accompanies the CD, which also features a stunning mix by Jay Tripwire.

Being the boss it’s only fair he kicks things off, as Steve Bug's 'A Shot In The Dark' begins the fun on A1. Of course its a high-class trippy affair full of classic Bug shenanigans. Awesome synth hooks and captivating drums spiral almost out of control!

Making his mark on the DJ mix, Jay Tripwire also contributes a very special new track, featuring the wonderful vocals of Katerine Larr. 'Find Me' stands out as a further reminder of the producer's edge in the modern house scene.

Irish legend Donnacha Costello contributes 'Hey, Dummy', a great follow up to his recent album on Poker Flat: 'Before We Say Goodbye'. This solid track is founded in Donnacha's deep acidic traditions, and injects some subtle touches of melody into the mix.

Patrick Chardronnet's dramatic and summery 'Birds On Strings' raising the tension. Well known for his tense, timely arrangements, he hands in a future classic that has had us all in raptures. Tried and tested!

French scenester D'Julz just refuses to back down, and so we hear in 'Get Down'; its a hot natured party track with a great timeless house atmosphere, packed in to a fresh and modern party killer!

Finally Dutch techno-boy Benny Rodrigues provides the ominous 'G'. A great, classic sounding cut that ties together the worlds of Amsterdam's rich techno scene, with the trippier, deeper sound of Berlin.

Ali Wilson, Matt Smallwood & Tristan Ingram - Miasma (PILOT052)

Some say too many cooks spoil the soup. But to mix the flavours and aromas of British producers Ali Wilson, Matt Smallwood and Tristan Ingram, makes up for a dish that'll get everyone in queue. Stand correct, as their 'Perfect Sunrise', 'Koko' and new track 'Miasma' offer you the perfect menu for dancefloor mayhem.

After the maddening 'Koko', the three of them revert to their approved recipe for success once more. Twitching a little pinch of house and adding all the main flavours of deep techno, while combining it with a mixture of progressive sounds and a scintillating, hymnal break. That's Ali Wilson, Matt Smallwood, Triston Ingram and their 'Miasma' - bass-driven, twisted, uplifting but deep and melodic - exactly the way we like it.

Matt Caseli & Danny Freakazoid - Sign Your Name (Across My Heart) [AXT016]

Following on from Axwell's summer anthem 'Nothing But Love' Axtone records refuse to rest on their laurels, following up swiftly with a release welcoming new names to the label in the shape of Pacha Ibiza Resident, Matt Caseli & Danny Freakazoid (CR2).

Borrowing heavily from Terence Trent D'arby's enduring hit from the 80s, the duo's re-vision has been a mainstay in Axwell's sets since the Winter Music Conference and has become one of the anthems at the Swedish House Mafia's Masquerade Motel this summer at Pacha, Ibiza.
Sebastian Krieg & Roman F.'s remix completes the package with their progressive interpretation.

Early DJ support has been extensive with plays from the likes of Eric Morillo, David Guetta, Roger Sanchez, Bob Sinclar, David Tort & Mark Knight.

Kris Menace - Masquerade EP (SIZE056)

Kris Menace is a true legend of electronic music, with the likes of ‘Discopolis’ under his discographic belt, it was only a matter of time before he turned out a release suitable for this iconic imprint. Kicking off proceedings is the powerful and euphoric ‘Swarm’, with impeccable synth patching and mixing the order of the day, culminating in a crescendo of vast magnitude. ‘Lockhead’, delivered jointly with Douze, has a tougher, techier edged vibe and this provides label boss Steve Angello the parts to drop a slick drum infused edit. With support from Pete Tong already in the bag this is destined for dance floor devastation.

EC87, the latest release from EC records is by Mulder. Mulder is a young talented producer from Holland who did releases and remixes last years on the BlaBla label. Also as a dj/live-act Mulders star is rising really fast. EC Records is really glad Mulder liked the thought to release his tracks on EC, as we did! 'Pleasant people' is a track which is played by Michel de Hey for more than a year already. And the reactions from the audience were awesome every time it was played.

Edu Imbernon & Triumph - Our Roots (EKV003)

Early support by Dubfire, Karotte, Nick Curly, Anja Schneider, Raresh, Mathias Kaden, Shinedoe, Wally Lopez....

Here at Eklektisch we are still reveling in the success of 002, Pleasurekraft's 'Tarantula'. The biggest selling track of the summer.

Seven weeks straight at #01 on the Beatport download chart, and Top 10 on the same chart for nearly three months. Having been thrust into the spotlight in most dramatic of fashions, its now down our task to build upon this success and we start today by presenting 003...

Who better to lead from the front than our label head himself, Edu Imbernon. Not only the mastermind behind the label, Edu has, over the past eighteen months, been on a steep trajectory to stardom.

Having ram raided the charts in May 2009 with 'El Baile Aleman' his co-production with Coyu, a record that went on to become one of the biggest club hits of the year, the Valencian producer's music has since appeared on an array of the most respected labels, and key compilations.

Today he teams up with the boss of the recently launched Espai Music imprint, Triumph, to deliver the next smash hit for Eklektisch. 'Our Roots' sees the duo heading back to theirs, taking influence from the past and dropping a catchy vocal line that is set to be sung for the rest of the summer.

The first of the remixes sees Dutch producer David Lebeij turn in, what for us, is without doubt one of his finest and funkiest mixes to date. Jack-heavy, with its beefed-up bassline and key stabs, Lebeij's fun is only broken by the unexpected, bonus breakdown towards the end.

Remix two comes from the pairing of Bla Bla Records boss Daniel Sanchez and Mulder. in contrast to the smiley exterior of the Original, this version sees the boys take us on a deeper, moodier trip. Purring bass, crisp bongo's and atmospheric synths make this a perfect version to close another fantastic release.

Piemont - Chair Or Throne (MBF12071)

"Piemont have worked for the last months on the aspect of leaving the trail of minimal by injecting a stronger and more noticeable note of soul, without becoming one of those “adult” house guys who sound as if they skipped teenage nihilism in favour for a perfect sound.

So please listen to “Chair or Throne” with its irresistible vocal snippet-collage, where three different sources of vocals clash with each other in a funky way... creating madness and deepness. This is a a techno house stormer for peak time moments!

Or it is a tune for DJs who love to dance behind the turntables to their own music before the club has opened their doors.

“Ganglion” the a2-track is a bit of a cool and at the same time weird rave techno track.

The track has a special acoustic to it and sounds as if Piemont were incorporating the spacious sound you get when staying in a waiting area at an airport.

A multi-dolby-sourround-sound with field recording aesthetics... don't ask us, please listen.

The b-side features Basti Grub's remix of “Chair or Throne“... a relentless groover that works with a cool stop and go rhythmic groove. Sexy and unique sounding, Riley Reinhold aka Triple R has played the remix at Berghain and rocked the crowd.

Ex Doppelschicht duo from Halle, Germany who have reunited as “Tremsch & Metzler” recently, are back with a Dadaistic remix of Piemont´s „Chair of Throne“.

They produced legendary remixes in the past of Butch (Muskatnuss, Earth), Mihalis Safras, SLAHJ aka Steve Lawler and Jimmy Hill, Citizen Kain and Riley Reinhold.

So here they deliver a stripped down groove “made in Halle” of Piemont´s “Chair Of Throne”.

Quazar - Number One EP (BLA015)

Amsterdam house legends QUAZAR return with a slamming new 12-inch on Bla bla records: the NUMBER ONE ep. The vinyl release consists of two vintage QUAZAR versions of the title track plus a rocking remix by one of the bright new stars on the Dutch tech-house firmament: dj and producer Juan Sanchez, who made his name with a string of great releases for Great Stuff, Noir and Kling Klong.

QUAZAR has been at the forefront of the Amsterdam techno and house-scene since the early nineties. Formed by producer Gert van Veen in 1990, the group made its name with its first 12-inch: The Seven Stars, which propelled Quazar to international fame.

Seven Stars was followed by some 25 releases (including 5 albums) for labels like Go Bang!, Bush, Seven Stars and Superstition.

Fast forward to the new century, where Quazar finally decides the time is right to release some new music. First, in 2009, came the groovy Space thing - a one off for Remote Area, released on the Remote Areas ep. And now theres a full 12-inch for Daniel Sanchez Bla Bla records.

NUMBER ONE has been a Quazar live favourite for ages, but although a first recording of the track already was made in 2005 (the A2 version), it would take almost five years before the wheels were finally set in motion resulting in this release. After hearing Number one during a Quazar live-concert, Juan Sanchez convinced van Veen that he should be given the chance to produce a remix. The result, the loud and pumping Klappertjepomper remix takes the track to big room techno territory.

The Music speaks so loud-version (A1) reflects the Quazar-sound of the year 2010: classic and pure, with a minimal arrangement driven by a classic synth (the legendary ARP Odyssey) and some groovy 909 beats.

The second version (with fine visuals courtesy of vj Bas Icke) is the orginal recording from 2005, rescued from the Quazar vaults by Daniel Sanchez himself.

The fourth track (digital only) is the acid-tinged Braindamage, another Quazar live favourite that never was released before.

Bearweasel - Things EP (TSUBA044)

What I like about the Bearweasel output is that it's consistent - not only in terms of quality, but in the way the lone ranging Staines production duo of Dean Muhsin and lover Louisa Page are prepared to continue to hone their craft and refine their style in place of stomping aimlessly and endlessly onwards.

For evidence, look no further than their latest EP, Things, which is a well paced, well balanced exploration of three types of deep - late night and hypnotic (‘Styly') sunset and chilled (‘Time To Start Again') icy and weightless (‘Button Down The Moose') - with each elongated work more than doing enough to warrant the seven minute plus track lengths.

The finest offering of a solid package comes right at the start: ‘Styly' is a dusty, unhurried and seemingly endless passage of Detroit inspired deepest house. The way the elements of the track interact and blend into one another, the way a distant spiralling synth circles ominously enough to add trepidation to proceedings and the way a masked, rattling snare sequence snaps in an out all bring to mind the hazy, soulful sounds of someone like Omar S at his best. Yes, that good.

Less intense but just as focused on carving a groove is ‘Time to Start Again' where a breezier, watery mid ground is pinned down with a pendulous, deep looping beat and is punctuated with clipped, curt snares: no showy drops, no attention grabbing hooks, just fine arrangements and subtle charm.

Final original track ‘Button down the Moose' is a swollen, bulbous dub cut which folds you into the fluffy midst of its deep bass chambers then gently keeps you turning with a delicately placed selection of icy, tinkling cymbals and raindrop drips. The subdued crackle and latent hiss of this super warm track is the sort of thing which the medium of vinyl was invented for.

It's also the sort of track which, for remixing, demands the attention of someone like dub techno torchbearer Brendon Moeller and, here in his Echologist guise, that's what it gets. The original's gentle forward motion is restrained yet further by Moeller who instead forces energies sideways for the first three and a half minutes before finally allowing some horizontal percussive movement and a thud-thud kick to seep into proceedings during the second half.

They certainly aren't a hyped duo, but it's hard to work out why owing to the knowing restraint, learned class and subtle individualism inherent in anything to which this duo put their name. If there's such as thing as a DJ's DJ, when you hear this EP you'll understand that I dare to declare Bearweasel the producer's producers.

The Flyers & Mike Sonar - Cherry Avenue (INFRA044)

ASOT support!

The Flyers & Mike Sonar return to Infrasonic, and again show why they are one of the circuits fastest growing trance acts with another 2010 hit!

Their trademark bassline is once again the catalyst, while the slick pads and catchy melody create that big room feel, a sound the guys are so good at achieving, and one of which works wonders on a dance floor!

Heading the package and making their debuts on the Infrasonic imprint are Ferry Tayle and French compatriot Stephan R. Fast becoming the name on every ones lips, Ferry has been on fire of late with major support on his work and a gig diary set to burst. This time he is joined by potential star Stephen R for yet another, energy induced club banger which complements the bass driven original to great effect!

Completing the package are two more of our rising stars Hensha and Mike Danis. Very different in style, Hensha brings some real warmth to the package with a big 'classic trance' sounding riff, while Mike Danis drops another progressive bomb!

An essential release!

Roger Shah & Signum - Ancient World (MAGIC044)

If Roger Shah wouldn't have taken people to magical, warm places with his music, he would probably be working at a travel agency. There's just something about his musical journeys. Under countless of monikers, he and his Magic Island imprint have taken millions of trance fans to undiscovered places.

On his latest travel, 'Ancient World', he once again invited the Dutch producer duo of Signum. Making a worthy follow-up to their unforgettable 'Healesville Sanctuary' was no easy task, but after hearing 'Ancient World' you know they succeeded.

Dulcet harp sounds combined with atmospheric vocals welcome you. The further you go and take a deep dive into 'Ancient World', the more melodic synth-sounds build up. Once you've reached the euphoric climax, 'Ancient World' turns into a party-anthem that goes far beyond the straight forward hands-in-the-air stuff, captivating you with catchy tech-synth sounds and an unrivalled atmosphere. Both the Signum and Roger Shah remix have their own feel, as well as the warm Balearic 'Long Haul Flight Mix'.

'Ancient World' will surely reach the outer corners of the dance globe.
