William Kouam Djoko - Day Break EP (SWS007)

As one of the most driven and unique producers of Amsterdam and “friend of the family“ we are happy to welcome William Kouam Djoko officially to the label. With his track Yes, Now on SOWESO Various Artists Volume 1 he already turned heads with his unique blend of deepness, darkness, sex and dancefloor vibes.

Now we are proud to present William Kouam Djoko 'Day Break EP'. The titletrack Day Break brings a deep fairytale-telling song that doesn’t let you go. A track to lose yourself in on sunday mornings.

The B side offers 'Jammin all over Europe', a playful bangin house track that will trigger the crowd to shout along with the catchy vocals. B2 is 'Jammin all over Europe (Lemos remix)'.

With this smashing bottom heavy remix Lemos shows you a dancefloor banger that defies the trend of todays dancefloor music. Bolt sounds, solid grooves and strange funkyness describe this remix best.

Matt Williams & Bahar Canca - Think Twice (SBDD003)

“Think Twice” produced by Bahar Canca and Matt Williams is the 3rd release from Sub Bubble Recordings, the label owned and run by Bahar herself, a Turkish-British female DJ. Sub Bubble is a burgeoning label and recording studio based in Wembley, London: a great split between techno and house that offers a space for Bahar to work her magic, but also to invite the cream of the musical crop into a top of the range studio. The single that will be released on 19th December 2010, also received some generous love from some big players including Jesse Voorn, Popof and Dr Kucho!.

Bahar Canca is a new force to watch out for in the vast world of EDM. Equipped with a strong personality, barrages of key DJ support and a finely honed sound that fully places the sex appeal back into tech-house and techno-funk, Bahar and production partner Matt Williams offer up a tasty treat to make sure your Christmas season goes out with a bang, wrapped into a neat and tidy package that’s sure to fill more than just your stocking this festive season.

This release follows on from their first two impressive EPs: “Latino Girl” notably remixed by Dr. Kucho! and “Ney / Better Than Sex”, both of which enjoyed huge DJ support from the likes of Juan Kidd, Popof, Jesse Voorn, Michael Gray, Kid Massive, Flash Brothers, Moussa Clarke and DJ Jean.

Lead single “Think Twice”, delivers a big, melodic tech-house experience whilst managing to explore a more bouncy, playful and driving corner of the techno spectrum. With a captivating and soulful vocal hook, layered over trippy mind-warping synths, and sporadically manipulated by Bahar and Matt to tease and tear up parties worldwide, this huge track will no doubt feature as a staple in DJs diets everywhere. Funky, energetic, four-to-the-floor fare, establishing this track as the all-important club banger it was always intended to be.

On the flipside, we’re graced with two remixes from techno big-boys Channel X. The first is a vocal mix that can be readily identified by keeping one’s ears pricked for a twisting, perverted and bouncing bass line. The intermittent use of infectious melodic strings and brass tweaks and hooks throughout - complimented by a percussion section - provide some tastily textured additions. It all adds up to an equally ferocious remix, more than deserving of basking in the glory already set out by Bahar and her infectious production qualities.

Backing up is Channel X’s relentless dub mix, its underground timbres would find itself most suited to the jam-packed warehouses of Berlin in the twilight hours of Sunday morning. Need I say more?

So, it is really a great EP of a new artist for us. For us the best track of the EP is the original, simple and effective. So now it’s your turn to make your own opinion.

Asem Shama - Creative Visulization (PASO25D)

Paso Music continue their constant run of form by welcoming back, one of the pioneers of German electronic music, Asem Shama. Similar to many German artists, Asem's roots are in Hip-Hop. A renowned rapper in the '80's, he began to experiment with electronic beats, and soon found a new musical home, where he had an unlimited scope to create and develop his own ideas.

Not just an artist, Asem has tasted the success and suffered the headaches of party promotion, as the driving force behind the legendary '90's 'Ravesyndrome' events. Around this time he set up his own studio and 'Syndrome Audio' label with Axel Bartsch.

The following years saw releases on esteemed labels including Bush, Planet of Drums, Frisbee Tracks, Utils and Speil-Zeug, as Asem firmly established himself on the techno circuit. He also flirted with crossover success, when his track 'Flash' became an official remix of the band Queen. Teasing the upper reaches of the charts in both Germany and the UK.

As a label man, Asem has lent his talents to co-founding the Sportclub label, where he has also featured as an artist, and is now part of the highly successful, Berlin based, Highgrade team. To date, he has released more than 80 productions, and in recent months has featured on labels including Highgrade, Ostwind, Kiddaz.FM and Upon You.

Almost 12 months after last making an appearance on Paso Music, with his 'Metroman' EP, Asem returns with another awesome 3 tracker. Showcasing the full spectrum of his sound, the EP ranges from the ascending and cascading synths of the main room aimed 'Creative Visulization'. To the modern, percussive, horn spiked tech-house of 'Law of Attraction', via the low-slung groove and mighty synth work of 'The Secret'.

Huxley feat. Sanna - Touch & Reach (RC007)

Young Englishman Michael Dodman, aka Huxley, first burst onto the scene in 2009 with his Sassanidis EP on Cécille Numbers. What’s followed has been a string of deep cuts on labels such as Tsuba, Fear of Flying and indeed Cécille, earning him respect in all the right circles. For an ‘up & coming’ artist, Huxley’s productions boast an air of sophistication beyond his years and his latest on Spanish imprint Raw Cutz is a prime example of that.

'Touch & Reach' is deep house with a nod to the classic US garage sound that has obviously influenced Dodman. A simple lush chord pattern and big garagesque bassline run throughout the track creating a groovy yet laid back vibe. The soulful harmonies and spoken word vocals from Sanna intertwine with the chords, further adding to the classic house vibe. A wash of hi hats drive the track on, but it’s momentum never exceeds cruising speed. The pinpoint production really brings out the warmth and smooth textures in the track, just how authentic deep house should sound.

Up first on remix duties is in demand UK house duo Bearweasel, delivering a killer - much more dance floor orientated - 10 minute workout. A jaunty hook plays off some lo-fi percussion, delayed synth stabs and clever kick work resulting in an infectious groove. Its not until after the drop, half way through the track, that some low toms enter the mix providing a bouncy bassline. Vocal free and more rugged and tracky than the original, it’s one for a clued up crowd. It will do some damage in the club that’s for sure.

Raw Cutz head honcho Andrés Bela provides the aptly titles Raw Cutz Edit, which retains the same vibe as the original. The most obvious change is to the bassline, which is reduced to a single note. Vocals still in tact and a subtle variation to the chord pattern, it’s still elegantly deep if a little more subtle that the original.

Rounding up the package, Andrés Bela teams up with the Andre Torquato Project. In the same vain as the Raw Cutz Edit, it’s a little more subtle than the original and could be considered more of a re rub than a remix. A subby kick dominates the bottom end leaving the synth and vocals to float along in the mid.

All in all, another solid release from the deep house upstart who’s gaining momentum with every release.

Da Funk - Gloomy Scene (ACRM040)

After an almost 2 year long hiatus, Acryl Music's label boss Da Funk is back in time for the 40th release. "Gloomy Scene" is a true filter house monster complete with mid 90ies drum programming, a rolling bassline and weird but funky samples. Oh and did we mention the vocal in the break?

Pablo Fierro's (iRecords, Dark Energy, Cover Music) beautiful interpretation takes the deep and spehrical path here while Addex's (Love Zone, Solid Fabric, Etoka Records) remix impresses with his signature style, somewhere inbetween deep and tech house.

Last but definitely not least we have GarcyNoise (Justified Cause, Om Records) Ibiza's Way remix, tailored for the big room.

Scope - Focus On: Urban Torque Scope (UTCD07D)

How do you know you've made it in the world of dance music? When you're releasing singles and remixes on labels such as Large Music, NRK, and Urban Torque? When you see your name appear on a roster of artists alongside Kerri Chandler, Ian Pooley, DJ Sneak and Funk D'Void? When you've released 100 tracks in 4 years to critical acclaim, built a worldwide fanbase and won the support of DJs including Danny Howells and Tom Middleton? However you look at it, Scope (Ric McClelland) is making a big noise and the unanymous decision is that it sounds good. Who better, then, to shine the spotlight on for the first in Urban Torque's "Focus On" series?

The follow up to his superb 'Studio Sessions', 'Focus On: Urban Torque Scope' is the cream of Scope's work so far for Urban Torque.

Hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland, he describes himself as "all about house music" and it comes across. The tracks feel perfectly balanced. A piano riff here, a sprinkling of vocals there. And whilst largely instrumental, there is one word that continually springs to mind; a word that seems to crop up in print wherever Scope is mentioned and that word is: quality.
