Toronto's Carlo Lio is simply on fire as a producer right now and keeps the momentum going with his third release for Dubfire's SCI+TEC Digital Audio entitled "Colors". This three track EP is the kind of chunky, progressive tribal house that drives main room dance floors wild while still maintaining some air of underground vitality.

"Colors" also comes with a zip pack of tools for young performers looking to exploit the new Bridge technology coming from Ableton, one of many new releases coming out that embraces new possibilities in the live setting.

One of the reasons Carlo Lio has risen to the top is because of his distinctive production style - heavy-handed drums and sinewy melodies that cling to the beats like a wet blanket."White", the opener here, is no exception. Simple loops and chugging beats keep this one basic and it surprisingly works. Nothing too dynamic here on the lead off track, but it's still very effective.

The second original, "Red", is the most tribal of the three with layers of syncopated drums and hypnotic vocal snippets leading the charge. Lio's trademark dark edges are all over this cut, another solid mover that does little musically other than groove... and groove and groove.

Rounding out the EP is "Black", a low-slung b-side that charges head long in to the peak hour maelstrom with reckless abandon. It avoids getting too proggy by dropping all of those trancy ass horn melodies that trip up tracks like this even though the opportunity is certainly there. This one is all horsepower and it's a thankful moment considering all of the horrible ways this track could have turned out.

Also included are six wave file tools (two from each track) that give live performers the opportunity to juggle the three cuts' synth and vocal loops in the mix for another perspective.
