One of the trance scene's true stalwarts, Mike Koglin has been pushing the sound forward ever since he burst onto the scene with his top 20-charting anthem “Silence” in 1998 - a cover of Depeche Mode’s 80’s synth-pop classic. Collaborating with Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant on tracks like 2004’s “Circuits” and 2005’s “Sequential”, Koglin has remained a close friend of the Anjunabeats family ever since and returns to the label with the unique “Sunstar”.

Opening on a cool, choppy electro bassline, “Sunstar” builds up the intensity before leading into a serene but soaring breakdown layered with heavenly, wraithlike vocals, epic pads and “Sunstar”s instantly recognisable melody leads. Dropping unexpectedly back into electro nastiness for a clever curveball, “Sunstar” steadily shifts back into melodic magic for an uplifting finale.

Offering a more direct trance-energised remix is Euphonic’s Ronski Speed. Nudging up the bpm a few vital notches and adding some warping electrified synth lines, Ronski builds a ripping groove and leads into the familiar soaring melodies of the original with power and pace.

Keeping the EDM machine going with soulful productions such as “Waiting For The Sun” and “Cut & Run”, is Estonian producer Madis Sillamo. Providing nothing but the warmest beats and on-fire melodies, he’s keeping things alight with a new release. Making you surrender to the dreamy, angelic voice of vocalist Emma Lock, once again, Beat Service delivers another jewel with “Not Out”.

A little mystery, tenderness and intangible prog-trancy depth come together in this S107 release. It's got everything a good, contagious trance track needs, including that warm-blanket feeling, rushing towards you as the beat kicks in.

Remixing’s Beat Service previous single “Hiding To Nothing”, makes UK producer Xtigma no stranger to the sound. His remix of ‘Not Out’ got a little more groovy on the edges, touching the big-room feel without losing the intimate feel of the original. Estonia producer Kaimo K, on the other hand, focuses on the harder, more up-tempo side of ‘Not Out’, turning it into one big piece of energy.

Very few tracks in 2010 shook the core of dancefloors worldwide bigger than “Sky Traffic”, the smash hit produced by Romania’s Adrian Ivan under his Mr. Pit guise. The dust has barely settled, but he is back with another double EP that harnesses bagfuls of momentum in its own right.

Stamina has been established as a regular Global DJ Broadcast World Tour player, featuring in the Bucharest and Best of 2010 Toronto editions. The track is much in the same vein as Sky Traffic, a big room melody embroiled in a huge dose of tech-influenced trance. The original mix suits those who like their melodies throughout, and the club mix is available for that necessary dancefloor groove.

All eyes in Coldharbour have been fixated on Prague in recent times, most notably for the release of Markus Schulz's Transmission theme “Future Cities”. In that very same set, one of the highlights proved to be ‘Overload’, with the Czech faithful in awe of its throbbing bassline style.

Both tracks are built and primed for the dancefloor, and as the clubs across Europe and North America begin to reopen after their Christmas break, Stamina and Overload will provide precisely what the clubbers want.

The “Distractions EP” is my first concept work: a piece of music divided into four movements intended to be listened to continuously, clocking in at a half an hour worth of music. The EP is an introduction to a different side of my writing style, giving the listener an insight to my interest in long-form composition.

My influences on this piece range from IDM to film music, which give me a wide pallet of sounds and moods to chose from. While the tempo of the piece is 126 BPM, it has the feel of a melodic techno record with the soul of a late 90’s progressive trance track.

The mood of the piece ranges from the foreboding and anticipating first movement, to the glitch-ridden, hopeful-sounding fourth movement. I used a fair amount of alternative digital signal processing and synthesis techniques, including C Sound and granular synthesis to give the piece's sound design a unique character and timbre.
