With RETAKE ONE Berlins Moodmusic label is kicking off a new Mix CD series. The first edition is being delivered by Moodmusic homeboy Dave DK.

The idea for the Retake series was born, when label head Sasse has released the Starstyling Mix on the occasion of the Fashion Week 2009, including only releases from the label.

RETAKE ONE contains some classic and new unreleased Moodmusic tracks as well as influential material from the past 10 years. Besides Daves edit off Sasses Wrapper track (Penner + Muder Remix) the mix features three new exclusive tracks that will also be released on a separate 12: Dave DK - Will Be Gone, Axel Boman Cinquenta and Citycobra - Fresh Simple.

To present an 80 minute overview of his DJ style, Dave has handpicked some of his favourite tunes from his recordbox. To present a modern and organic sound, most tracks have been recorded from Vinyl, partly from Vinyl-only-labels.

With the focus being put not only on the music but also on the packaging and design, Retake One stands out in the present flood of mediocre media and music releases. Top designer Matthias Egil Last (awardee of the worlds best designed newspaper) has been called in for the artwork. No less than two photoshootings were necessary to come up with the final result. Last is also responsible for the design of the Watergate Mix CD series.

After his residencies at Tresor Club since 1999 as well as Panorama Bar since 2001, Dave DK has been a key figure in Berlins music community. Spinning nowadays regularly throughout legendary clubs in Berlin, Dave is also playing gigs all around the world.

Having released his first 12s on Raum Musik in the late 90s, the long players SENSORY OVERLOAD (2000 Müller Records) and LIGHTS AND COLOURS (2007 Moodmusic) were the highlights of his career which is now being crowned with RETAKE ONE.

Long-serving Scottish label Soma have announced details of Soma Compilation 2011, scheduled for release this December.

Beginning life back in 1991, the label founded by Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle (better known by their production name Slam) have been responsible for releasing such classics as Daft Punk's "Da Funk," Funk D'Void's "Diabla" and their own "Positive Education." 2010 has been another fairly substantial year for them: in addition to putting out music from Joris Voorn, Gary Beck and Silicone Soul, Soma proffered The Black Dog's Music For Real Airports — an LP that will likely prove to be among the most highly regarded in electronic music this year.

Contrary to its title, Soma Compilation 2011 rounds up this year in the life of the label. Music from perennial Soma producers Silicone Soul, The Black Dog and Funk D'Void rubs up against tracks from newer names like Harvey McKay and Gary Beck. Joris Voorn's remix of Samuel L. Session's 2006 club smash "Can You Relate" makes an appearance, while The Black Dog remix Slam's "Azure" which did similar damage of dancefloors in 2007.

Canadian techno artist Jean-Patrice Remillard, known as Pheek, will release his 10th album on Archipel, his own imprint. After waiting 4 years to produce a new album, Pheek worked on nailing down a technique of automatic writing to his music.

Once the concept in place, he used it to bring his intricate techno into a tale of surrealism, where non-sense take a fragile signification in the end. if the album were a painting, it would be a detailed landscape, rather than a focused portrait unassuming, until you take a step closer and realise the detail with which the brush strokes have been laid down.With a precise focus of not censoring himself, Pheek dove into archives, using discarded sketches, mixing old ideas to new ones into a dense collage.

While trying to detach himself from old patterns and not necessary having DJs on his mind, the album is made to slowly create little abstract worlds of rhythmic dreamy textures, where every excursion is a new one.Since he first started to release music, Pheek has been known to have a sound you can recognize in the first moments through his unique signature.This album will surely bring things to new grounds while keeping the same flavour.

Well produced, high quality Electro House like it should be by Gregori Klosman & Danny Wild. In their immortal words: 'please let me work for the NASA because I'm a Space Banana' will light every dance floor on fire. No doubt, check it out for yourself.

DJ Mes & Sonny Fodera present the 'One Night IN Oakland EP'. Together they have crafted a monster EP composed of three tracks that offer a little something for everyone, alternating between Jacking, Tech and Deep House. First up on the A Side is a storming re-edit of T-Connections' Do What You Want to Do.

With its distinctive funky touch, there is absolutely nothing about this track that doesn't call for some serious play time. The B-Side gets down and dirty with You Nasty. With its sick tech-house sound and addictive vocal hooks, You Nasty will keep those heads bouncing all the way home from the club. The third cut Feels Alright gets a little sexier and a lot deeper with scintillating percussion and a huge baseline that will creep into your ear and make itself right at home. This is a great package for all house lovers. Spaced out quality here from Systematic boss Marc Romboy, with his debut solo release on Herzblut. It's got that delirious, progressive feel to it right from the word go - it really leaves an impression from the moment you press play. In fact it made me start thinking about the guiltily pleasurable tech-trance of a bygone era… Nick Warren, Humate, Der Dritte Raum etc., but slower. The dreamy, rolling synth that remains throughout the song is eventually hijacked by a growling undercurrent in what is a highly promising crescendo, only for momentum to be lost somewhat as the growl meanders off on one for the duration.

Never the less, Romboy was onto something with this, and Christian Smith makes good use of it with the B-side. It's a more conventional affair with a long and gradual build-up and a nice reward after the breakdown, where Smith recognises the need to combine the growl and the dreamy for an extended period at the peak of the song rather than restricting it to the build up as Romboy did; and plentiful cymbals/hits add an increased urgency that is also most welcome.

Romboy wraps things up with Stratosphere, which is similarly ponderous in build-up to 616 Seconds but eventually boils superbly to a scary climax, and as is a feature of the entire release, uses some fantastically crafted sounds to get there.

This is well produced stuff, and at times, brilliantly intense.

2010 has seen Plus 8 celebrate its 20 year anniversary with releases coming from some of technoĺs finest artists, including Paco Osuna, Marco Carola, Skoozbot, Mike Shannon, Danilo Vigorito, Datasoul and Uto Karem. Now London duo Layo & Bushwacka! join the family with the release of their debut for Richie Hawtin and John Aquavivaĺs imprint, with the Endangered EP.

Layo & Bushwacka! are one of electronic music's most esteemed duos. In just over a decade they have released three artist albums, three mix albums, formed their own label - Olmeto - and have held residencies at several internationally renowned clubs, including their monthly ‘All Night Long’ parties at The End in London, which Layo co-owned with Mr C. Since The Endĺs closure, Layo & Bushwacka! have been putting on bi-monthly ĹShake itĺ warehouse parties around London, inviting guests including Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Magda and Laurent Garnier to play intimate sets that distinctly capture the raw energy of techno in its formative years.

"We both sat down at the early part of the year to talk about making music in 2010 and what we wanted to do - we felt that for four years we had just made music for Olmeto, and that maybe it was time to do something for another label to give us a different focus; a new litmus test. We then said on this basis, it has to be for Plus8/Minus. And several months later, here is our first EP for Plus 8: Endangered.

Hailing from the free swinging hills of San Francisco, established DJ and producer Alland Byallo has created his own unique sound out of a love for deep, soulful house combined with more edgy techno moments. From his own successful Nightlight label he has released a quality catalogue including his debut artist album last year. Of course it was only a matter of time until his talents were noticed by Poker Flat boss Steve Bug, and the results are this briliant 3 tracker, which also marks Alland's arrival in his new home of Berlin. Welcome to town Mr Byallo!

'Discovaries' has a healthy amount of Berlin's reduced techno affinity rooted within its phasing, growing p-funk waves. Tense, moody and of course drenched with attention to detail, this is a grower in the true Poker Flat style.

The sunken, murkier undertones of 'Shipwrecked' begin as a darker moment in techno, however gradually unfold and surface into a shining, tripped out afterhours anthem.

Sasse & James are on Fire another sure fire floor burner EP from the Berlin deep house maestros, chunky house music at its best playing this time homage to a certain New York sound from the early to mid 90s.

Henry Street takes it where Whos in the House and The Right Way left, spicing up the soup with some rolling bass and slam dunkin beats underlayed by a heavy heavy kick !

To get things even more jelly, LOPAZZ & Zarook fired up an amazing dirty discofied remix of The Left Swing + weve got the original as a bonus !

Rhythm Converted is a new label from Belgian techno guru, Tom Hades. Having created (with Marco Bailey) the Rhythm Convert label in 2004, Rhythm Converted represents a new chapter in the history of the innovative and forward-thinking approach the label has always pushed.

Having burst on to the techno scene via his I Love Techno collaboration with Marco Bailey, Tom Hades has been at the centre of the techno scene since 2001. Working as a solo artist and with Marco Bailey, Tom has created an impressive catalogue of tracks on labels such as Drumcode, MB Elektronics, 8 Sided Dice, Naked Lunch and Hell Yeah.

Get Fresh is yet another quality track to come from Moguai as he sees 2010 off with this great release through us at Skint.

As ever, the production is tight and influences imaginative, the intro takes no prisoners, but for the faint-hearted amongst you the early mayhem’s soon equalized by playful percussion and an infectious 90s-esque vocal. Not to mention the spine tingling ‘hands in the air’ choral-tones that has long become a trademark for the German genius. The finished product is another bold melodic house stomper worthy of any dance floor.

The remixes come thick and fast, expressing a wide range of sounds and influences. The Dohr and Mangold remix further utilizes the hook-laden vocals, the tech-house duo manipulate and reshuffle the hook throughout, introducing intermittent dubbed out synth stabs and lively drums, to produce a truly bouncy and party-filled groove. Keep a careful eye on these two.

Offering another perspective is Run Riot, with an obliterating mix that focuses on the break beat as it pummels and ravages your ears with bottom heavy beats and crunchy, distorted bass. On the flip, Skint label legends X-Press 2 offer deep-house mixed with staunch techno beats, with radiating, piercing bassline coming through on the drop for the all-nighter crew.
